Imagine This: The 2012 RSOL Designer House Action Begins

I’m designing the Butler’s Pantry for the Richmond Symphony Orchestra League Designer Show House. Here's the work in progress.

I've started transforming the space. Check out this computer rendering that will become reality in just a few days.

The colors are inspired by the home’s exterior and surrounding landscape—plus it’s a great opportunity to showcase the Kelly green color trend. I love this lush, floral print.

I’m using this room to highlight a new multipurpose room home trend called the "drop zone"—a mudroom, craft room, eating nook and dog den in one. Yep, it’s pet friendly, child friendly and dirt friendly, all at once!

This project is also giving me the opportunity to collaborate with some great local talent. The Closet Factory is providing storage.

Sarah Gayle Carter is also providing a colorful, stylish pet portrait. There’s no better way to show pet love! Go here to see some of her work.

Also, check out this cool bird lantern.

Make sure you come check out the finished room.

Love Your Home: Multitasking Furniture With Storage Solutions

Making a room beautiful is easy.  When I tackle interior design projects, one of the challenges I face most often is making a room functional too. Family rooms in particular tend to need practical storage solutions for family items like blankets, legos, magazines, dog toys and more. Bathroom storage is another challenge— these rooms need to house a lot of products in small spaces.

Here are some of my new favorite ways to sneak in storage and keep rooms that get a lot of use neat.

This glamorous custom closet needed a laundry bin. This custom ottoman serves as an attractive hamper provides a spot for sitting.

Powder rooms with pedestal sinks often lack storage for that ever-important extra TP. This dog food bin disguises six rolls.

The soft edges of these round leather bins work great in this office, plus they disguise extra work supplies.

Need more storage solutions for your home? Here are three new pieces that will be available at our mini shop At Market in DeCOR this fall. They are perfect for holding a variety of items and finishing a room with style.
