The Endless Search: Sophisticated Game Room Toys

The game room, the man cave, the play room—these can be some of the toughest rooms to tackle design-wise because they need to be functional, fun and stylish all at once. You want games your family can enjoy but that also add something appealing to the look of the room. Here are some of the distinctive games I’ve found:

This District Eight foosball table is made from reclaimed objects. It’s manly and fun at the same time.

I also love this District Eight chessboard made from reclaimed objects.

Venture Shuffleboard makes several maple shuffleboards in a variety of styles so you can find one to match any room.

I also love Venture Shuffleboard’s maple ping pong table because it’s eye-catching and functional—just take the net down and you have a fine dining room table.

This Bespoke Global Lucite foosball table spoke to me the most. It can be customized in any color. I’ll take one for my glamor-girl cave, please.

Okay, okay, I didn’t see this at any market. I saw it years ago in the Neiman Marcus Christmas catalog. If we are talking about game tables, it can’t be left out.

The Mix: Soft London Shades

Soft London shades are my favorite window treatments. They are simple and functional, yet they add a ton of style to any room. Plus, different fabrics and prints can be complementary or show-stoppers, depending on the look you're going for. Here are some of my favorite looks I've created lately.

From the Richmond Symphony Designer House, this over-scaled floral shade brightens a tight space. See the whole room here.

A printed and embroidered brocade is traditional, but becomes a transitional look in this casual dining room. See the whole room here.

In this sitting area, the subtle tone-on-tone stripe adds sophistication. See the whole room here.

This sky blue sheer shade blends with the pale walls in the bedroom for a smooth and calm effect. Plus, the sheer will give privacy while softly filtering the light.

This textured sheer with a faux bamboo rod is earthy and creates a great, natural effect when combined with the grass cloth walls.
